The Also-Rans at The Fort between 2000 to 2002

In 1998 Fort Apache moved from Roxbury to North Cambridge where and shared space in the former Rounder Records warehouse. During this time the Fort was recording some of the most influential and successful rock records of the time. With this success they were able to open 2nd studio in North Cambridge. This new and larger studio was called the B Room and was located across Mass Ave.  The B Room had the exact same control room dimensions but a much larger live room with a stage in the performance space.  As you may have guessed, this space is now The Bridge Sound and Stage.

This month, Tape Op magazine interview producer Matt Bayles about his work in Nashville, Seattle and Boston. In the article he mentions working in the B room on the ICIS album, Oceanic. His description of the space and the acoustics were spot on. It was a great surprise read about our studio in the only recording magazine I subscribe too.

The Fort of 2002 is now The Bridge

Also this month, Brad from Bradley’s Almanac was kind enough to share these photos of The Also-Rans mixing an EP in the Fort’s B room. You can see just how much things have changed but stayed the same too!

We have all new gear these days so everything works and sounds great! But you may  wonder happened to that old console and tape machine? Some of it is in AZ at Flying Blanket.

Boston Rock BBQ Summer 2010

by Intern on Jun.02, 2010, under Uncategorized

Back Lot

Grilling in The Back Lot.

Summer is here and we kicked it off well at The Bridge. The most popular comment of the night was “Do you put on shows here?” or “I thought you were a venue.” I’m glad we did the event because now more of you know that we are a recording studio and that we do put on shows when it works for a live album.

The best part of the night was all the music! TAB, who was in town for there show a the Mid East, played an unplugged set and sported their Stones influenced harmonies. All told we had live music on the stage for 5 hours straight! I did manage to record quite a bit of it and I’ll do what I can to post so of the music soon.

Open

Live Music All Night!

Thanks to all of you who purchased raffle tickets, the BBQ was able to raise some money for ZuMix.  Prizes were donated by Sonicbids, Great Scott, Church, Wonderdrug, Deep Ellum, New England Comics,  Boston Wine Exchange, Bella Luna, The Milky Way and many more.

I just read this about our party from bostonsurvivalguide!

Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom in English

Just got my copy of this CD, It sounds awesome! Thanks to Fr. Isaac and all Fathers and Brothers at HTM for their dedicated work singing as well as editing and mixing. Spending these weeks with you tracking was truly one of the most unique and special moments of my life. Also a shout out to Cousin Niall for helping out on several sessions and Jeff Lipton at Peerless for Mastering (new website btw). The MP3 can’t do this justice but you can here one here. You can buy it here.

ReviewBy: Benjamin Williams
This recording was professionally recorded, edited and mastered, which results in a CD whose quality is every bit as good (and beautiful, in as much as each CD has icon images on them) as the packaging. This recording has been long awaited, from the Monastery that has set a standard in America for the highest quality translation and publication of liturgical service books. The sound is crystal clear, the singing is engaging and devotional because it is exactly what you would hear were you to worship at the Monastery for the Divine Liturgy. With one exception, the arrangements, like the translation, are those of the Monastery. Added to that is the completeness of the project–not just hymns from the Divine Liturgy–but the entire service with prayers and hymns most seldom heard (i.e. the Blessing of the Kollyva and the Dismissal hymns), and the result is simply terrific. A long awaited and worthy project, well executed! Fr. Isaac, Abbot of the Monastery, summarizes the goal of this undertaking as ” Our choir put a lot of love and labor into making it just as our translators do for the liturgical texts. We hope that English speaking Orthodox Christians will be edified and strengthened by it.”

Floor Plan For Soundscape 2010

We are one again sponsoring a the Blink Project.  This event takes place in 2 adjacent venues simultaneously, Underbar and Caprice Lounge.  It is a standalone event that will be a sample of our proposed temporary installation and series of events, for the former Filene’s site in Downtown Crossing, (info. on website). SOUNDSCAPE is an ongoing exploration of BLiNK, based upon an unprecedented synergistic interaction of music, art, architecture, and sound. Electroacoustic drumset, violin, guitar, cello, bass, oud, piano-synth, and exotic percussive instruments from around the globe, will perform a 20 movement score, creating a soundscape, which winds through the venue’s oddly shaped architecture. A lead group will perform upstairs at Caprice.  Their sound will be transmitted downstairs, and played on speakers throughout Underbar, where 3 other groups, spread apart, will play in synchronization with that sound. Lighting and video art will mesh with the music.  This involves faculty, alumni, and students from Berklee, MassArt, Emerson, Bridgewater State, and Art Institute (Brookline). http://blinkproject.com/soundscape2010.html
